The Others- The New Director’s version

1- The title --- What does the title refer to? The title refers to Grace, Anne and Nicholas. They are dead but they don’t know it.
2- The Setting
In the first scenes of films, directors generally present the location of the film and set an atmosphere to create a given mood or feeling. Name the elements chosen by Amenáber to enhace the horror atmosphere. Would you like to add any more? Yes, I would like to add some ghosts or more surprise of terror.
3- The Time---When is the film set? How does the director tell/show the audience? The film happens in Jersey (England).
4- The Cast
Grace the, mother:
• How does she feel? She feels worried about rare things that happen in the house and scared by her children.
• How does she educate her children? Reading the books about history, religion…
• Is she mad? She is often mad because she makes her daughter angry things in the house.
Anne and Nicholas, the kids:
• What’s their health condition? They are ill they can’t see the light of the sun.
• How do they cope with their situation? Grace covers the windows with curtains and close the doors whenever she leaves a room so that the house this always dark.
Mrs Mills, Mr Tutle and Lydia, the housekeepers
• The film begins with their arrival.
• What’s their role in the story? They try to help Grace and at the end of the story to make understand him that this dead and she are authenticates intruder of the house.
Alejandro Amenáber the director
• Do you know any other films by this director? Yes, I only know the film “Mar Adentro”.
• How old was he when he directed this film? Alejandro Amenábar was 29 years old when he directed this film in 2001.
• Has the film won any prizes? Yes, the film won eight Goya Prizes and Nicole Kidman was candidate to the best actor in the Oscars but she didn’t win.

Can the Others be considered a representative of Gothic fiction? Defend your opinion.
The plot the film would can to define itself as gothic already that the film is coverall of psychological horror and the gothic culture comes from terror histories. In my opinion the film is coverall of psychological terror.
